This week I photographed another beautiful woman needing images for her business. Meet Dr. Lisabeth Saunders Medlock of Life By Design Coaching. She was a real pleasure to work with. We took some images for her website and ads and such, but also took some time to take some fun images, both in her work space and outdoors. Be watching the blog for a session with her daughter coming soon!

Thanks you so much, Beth! It was a pleasure meeting and working with you;)

Thank heaven for little girls! This little girl was truly an angel. Just as beautiful and sweet as she could be and she was so good for me! She slept pretty soundly most of the session and so we had lots of fun trying on different hats from my collection (more than I am even posting here;-). Mom and Dad were terrific to work with and had the house nice and toasty for our session. We started early and spent quite a bit of time doing all the things we wanted to do. I told Mom and Dad that all three of them would likely sleep well last night – LOL. I hope I was right!

Mom and Dad, thank you so much for entrusting me with capturing this new chapter of your lives! Have 25 friends or family members leave a comment to this post, with their name, and receive a 5×7 portrait of your choice on me;-)

And now for something completely different….

When working with families with small children, it pays to be flexible! After all, these precious little ones don’t really care about family photographs now (although one day they will be so thankful to you for dedicating some time to documenting their childhood!). They just want to have fun, to explore, to laugh, or to cry, or to take a nap, or to eat…..or whatever they are feeling at that particular moment. Sometimes a playful attitude is enough to coax them into the spirit of the session. But sometimes, no amount of play, pleading, or bribery will do. And sometimes the conditions just aren’t right for a session. Maybe it starts to rain – or rain is called for and everyone gets up earlier than normal to avoid the inclement weather and the child isn’t really in the mood. Sometimes, for whatever reason, you need a do-over!

There was just a little bit of everything that called for a do-over for this session. If you have been to my blog before, you may remember this beautiful (and soon to be bigger) family from last May and last November. They are so wonderful to work with and their daughter is just precious. She is just turning two years old now and it was so fun to spend time with her and actually be able to really communicate with her now! This is the second time I have been called to photograph them on their summer vacation. The day of the session, they were calling for thunderstorms and I was afraid we would miss our opportunity for images. So I called to see if we could arrange for a morning session. But it was too early for all of us and too late for nice soft light on the beach. Things just were not going as well as we had hoped. So we decided to let the little one nap and we would try later in the day. And thanks to Dad, we opted for something completely different and met for an afternoon of fun at Broadway at the Beach. And I think we were all so glad that we did! Not only did we get some fun, more modern, and colorful images that are completely different from last year’s session, but we had a wonderful time too! We also took a few belly shots this day since baby brother is due in about a month.

Mom and Dad, I hope you enjoy these images! Thank you so much for being so fabulous to work with and I really did have a wonderful time with you;)

Today was such a wonderful day. There was nothing extraordinarily special planned for today. In fact, my little family spent time today driving around looking at housing for our upcoming relocation back to Columbia. That doesn’t sound particularly interesting, I am sure. But I don’t know if I could have enjoyed the day any more. Me and the hubs and our beautiful daughter and our totally rotten (and sooooo much-loved) pooch headed to Cola and drove around for hours. We stopped at Baskin-Robbins, which is one of our favorite treats, and even the dog got a small cup of soft-serve vanilla! We took breaks to play at a couple of neighborhood parks. And on the way home, my wonderful husband pulled the car over on the side of the highway at an area I have been talking about where there is a wonderful patch of wild flowers growing – just so I could take some images of my daughter. I couldn’t get out of the car fast enough. I felt so happy!

Mother’s Day is one of my favorite days of the year. It is a day that I am always so humbled and reminded of just how fortunate I am – for being the daughter of a wise, wonderful, loving, and outrageously beautiful (inside and out) woman and for being blessed with becoming the mother of the most incredible little girl I know!

Becoming a mom is the best thing I have ever done. Raising my daughter is the most important “job” I will ever hold. When times are difficult, it is what gives me the strength to push through. When times are good, it is what gives me the most joy. I like to think I am teaching my daughter the things she needs to know to help her become a loving and happy person and am helping her discover her best self. But honestly, she teaches me just as much as I teach her about true happiness and being your best self. If I could have 5 more just like her, I would do it!

I hope all of you moms out there had a wonderful day too and that you know just how lucky you are! Happy Mother’s Day to all of you;)
